Overview

The quiet option among our desert trips, and the best one for families with small children or anyone who would rather not drive anything. You transfer by air-conditioned car to a Bedouin camp before sunset, where you are seated on floor cushions with mint tea.

Dinner is an open buffet: grilled chicken, rice, vegetable tagines, salads and flatbread baked in front of you. Afterwards there is a tanoura show and folk music.

Then comes the main part of the programme: an astronomy session with a telescope and a guide who points out the constellations and the planets visible that night. The desert behind Hurghada is one of the best places in Egypt to see the Milky Way, because there is almost no light pollution. A full moon washes out the fainter stars — tell us if you would like to pick a darker night.
